2011 Wave Off Photo Essay

A September long weekend tradition has taken hold on Hornby. The community gathers at the Thatch Pub to “Wave Off” the last ferry of the weekend. It is a bittersweet event as we say goodbye to summer, our visitors and those that are seasonal residents. As the last ferry departs the crowd gathers on the deck and lawn of the Thatch and waves goodbye while the boat does “doughnuts” in the channel and shoots off water cannons. Also becoming a bit of a tradition is the naked farewell, adding a little Hornby style to the day.

Thanks to Elizabeth Macdonald for the fantastic photos.
