Get Tanked A Hornby Arts Council Project

The Hornby Island Arts Council (HIAC) has initiated many exciting arts based projects and “Get Tanked” certainly ranks among the best of them. As a remote, rural island we count on the extraordinary members of our volunteer Fire Department to help keep us safe. In turn, they count on the many water tanks located throughout the island to get the job done. HIAC has commissioned local artists to turn these necessary, but not usually pretty, tanks into works of art. To date, the tanks painted are located at the entrance to Bond Road (Fords Cove), at the Co-op and along Central Road near Sandpiper.

Our hats are off to HIAC for initiating these superb examples of public art and to Elizabeth Macdonald, Tessa Fenger and Graham Herbert for transforming utility into beauty. Watch for more road side surprises in 2011.
