Vorizo - Sabina Fullborn
Vorizo Espresso Bar was started by Judy Stransman, Brian Amos, Audrey
Derksen and Ilka Salo in 1986. Ilka and Brian built a beautiful gypsy style caravan,
and the foursome began serving the first espresso style coffees and Mexican fast food
on Hornby. Moving from the Community Hall to the Ringside Market, and even the
Filberg Festival in Comox, they became famous for their incredible homemade cakes,
pies, and specialty coffees - which were still very special in those days.
In 1987 the caravan became established at the Ringside Market and was surrounded by hand built, natural slab tables and benches. The menu was expanded to include burritos and quesadillas, which are still everybody's favorite for a hearty breakfast, lunch or dinner. The beans were always, and of course still are, made from scratch.
In
1998 Sabina purchased Vorizo. After spending 3 years in Thailand watching
thousands of food vendors with tiny little charcoal carts making the most
impressive meals, she believed she could rise to the challenge and extended
the food selection by light wraps, spicy pad thai, and yummy panini. Come and
enjoy our homemade meals, unique atmosphere and
special part of Hornby history.
